This is the most important psychology book of all time !! Robert Cialdini draws on the expertise that compliance professionals have developed over centuries into 6 Principles of Persuasion . These are so incredibly powerful that I reference them every time I’m brainstorming a new ad campaign. Reading this book has made me a more effective copywriter and marketer.

David Ogilvy is such a pro. His advertising is just as relevant today as it was in the 1950s. In this book, Ogilvy remarks on the best, most successful ad campaigns of his career, while you as the reader can see the ads themselves right on the page. Anyone interested in advertising should learn from this book.

Eastern Philosophy

If I had to choose one person whose philosophy matched my own the closest, I’d choose Alan Watts. He is one of those rare people who has mastered both eastern and western philosophy, finding the essential truth in both and translating between the groups. His lectures and writing put the mind at ease by expressing that which you have known all along but have been unable to put into words.

Paramhansa Yogananda was an incredible man and yogi. He is almost like a Jesus figure in some circles, and after reading the book you’ll see why. His life, and his spiritual ideals, have inspired millions. While the book is laden with miracles that any skeptical man of science would render suspect, the goodwill of the author and his general wisdom are so profound that it’s no wonder Steve Jobs carried this book around throught his life, and even had copies handed out to guests at his funeral as his final gift to them. Truly special.

Herman Hesse describes the state of enlightenment more eloquently than any other author I have come across. He tells stories that feel perfect; stories of spiritual journeys. This book is the story of the Buddha’s spiritual journey, from his time as a young prince through his death. It will make you laugh, cry, and feel a sense of wonder that may have a profound impact on your life, as it has had on mine and countless others. Like a Hemingway or Camus novel the simple, humble tone of the text speaks volumes.

Western Philosophy

The ultimate absurdist novel, Albert Camus tells the story of someone who goes with the flow his entire life… so much so that he eventually is charged with murder and executed. All the while the character is philosophizing on life and all its absurdity. This is brilliant, timeless philosophy.
